A Message From Councilman Lavelle...

Welcome to the Greater Hill District Master Plan Website!

I encourage you to become involved with the master plan process and review the work that is currently taking place. Let me start by giving you a little background on the master plan. Planning has been going on in the Hill District for decades. The goal of this planning process has been to incorporate all existing plans for the neighborhood (which you can find on this website), and then build on these plans to create a development framework for the neighborhood, which includes all of the Hill District, Uptown, and small parts of West Oakland. From the beginning, the process has involved residents and community stakeholders actively engaged in formulating this plan.

The project goal is to create a document that will be used as a guideline for the development of the Greater Hill District. It will be used to define the vision for future growth and regeneration of the community. The plan will be an outgrowth of the needs and desires of the community for a healthy environment and improved quality of life. It will also serve as a guide for developers and investors for this
area.

The urban design team of Sasaki Associates and Stull + Lee were brought on to manage the process of developing the master plan. To date there have been community meetings to gain the input of the residents and stakeholders, tours of the neighborhoods to witness first hand the uniqueness of each area, as well as extensive research on existing plans.

As chair of the Greater Hill District Master Plan Management Committee, I can ensure you this is no small undertaking but one that is critical to our community's future. As we work in these last months to complete
the plan I ask that all residents and stakeholders in the Hill District and Uptown communities get involved in the process. Full participation from the community and from those that love this community is imperative. Your leadership and participation are essential in guiding and protecting the community's interests. We simply cannot afford to miss out on the opportunity offered forth by this moment.

To get involved, spend some time reviewing the materials on this website, and then please contact my office at 412-255-2134 or attend our next event.

Together, we will plan a vibrant future for the Hill District.

R. Daniel Lavelle
Chairman, Greater Hill District Master Plan Management Committee
